MINIMAL TEXTURE
Collection
RE: MINIMAL TEXTURE, an on going series of acrylic paintings.
Jack Cassady’s “Minimal Texture”, is about color, texture, size and juxtaposition.
The concept for the series originated in 1993. The artist is interested in the combination of abstraction and representation, which the artist has played with in a number of other series. Jack has always been interested in photography and has experimented in various techniques, this series relates to the use of macro photography, taking a small image and magnifying it. Blowing it up, out of proportion and basically changing the original context. With the use of a background texture, the image is painted on top, thus creating an abstract feeling to the image. The images usually of wood, paint and metal, are old, weathered with an unusual sensual quality and the color is natural, developed over time.
This series has a very strong sense of age, of things past, forgotten, misplaced, not normally observed, but with an obvious history.
The paintings are large. Some are in private collections and have been exhibited in Toronto.
