HIS’ AND HERS’
Collection
RE: HIS’ AND HERS’, a series of acrylic paintings.
Jack Cassady’s “ The His and Hers Series” is about male-female sexual fantasy and the emotional response through physical gesture and suggestion.
The concept for this series originated in 1989. This series was a culmination of the two previous series of paintings Jack did, The Torn Series and the L’Natural Series. The artist was interested in the combination of clad versus nudity, male / female, fantasy / reality. It has something to do with the sexual revolution of the 60’s & 70’s, and the change in attitudes in the 80’s, censorship, anti-porn laws, safe sex, aids, etc.
A brief description of this series is as follows: A dressed figure (different stereotype for each work) on one side, a torn edge, and a nude figure on the over side. Both genders are very attractive and appealing. The inherently elusive quality of this series of sensuous images is based on classical perceptions of beauty relative to contemporary views.
There are twelve paintings in this series, six female nudes and six male nudes. The figures are life size or larger and are painted with a number of transparent glazes of luminescent color giving the elusion of depth, a unified texture of random circles in a color field background vary with each figure and intensify the torn edge.
The series were to be part of a performance piece by Juan Antonio, but he died of Aids before the series was completed. The series has been exhibited in Toronto.
